Lately, my Google Reader page that I used to enjoy has lost something, and I think I know what it is. Creativity! With 91 blogs marked, I've noticed myself quickly scanning over everything just to keep the unread count down. They almost all look the same. The same rumors, the same army lists, and almost the same battle reports. This army list could be most of the net lists out there:
SPAM MARINES
HQ Storm Shield
TH / SS
5 Man Squad in Razorback
5 Man Squad in Razorback
5 Man Squad in Razorback
5 Man Squad in Razorback
5 Man Squad in Razorback
5 Man Heavy Weapon Squad in Razorback
5 Man Heavy Weapon Squad in Razorback
5 Man Heavy Weapon Squad in Razorback
Here's what I think, B-O-R-I-N-G.
Is it effective? Yes. Is it fun? To me, no. Where is the creativity? Where are the other units in the codex? How often do you see Thunderfire cannons being used? Or whirlwinds? What about other armies? How long has it been since you or your opponent placed a unit of Tau snipers on the table?
I guess what I'm trying to say here is that for the most part, the internet has gotten very repetitive. I want to start a new section for this showcasing armies and blogs that approach this hobby from the creative side instead of the WAAC / spammy side. If you guys and gals have some good links and blogs that you want to send my way I'd appreciate it! Here's one that you guys should check out. It's our local group's blog that I also belong too, The Istvaanians.
So, send me those links, and I'll go through them and add them to a new banner over to the side called Readers Blogs! Also, if you follow this blog, I'll add you to the same list.

I will nominate my own blog as I feel that I approach the game of 40k as a hobbyist first and foremost. For me I build the armies that I want to build, paint then play. Check it out at: www.Thechaosmanifesto.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteMan I sport a Thunderfire, in almost every battle, they're great! Nothing takes down a daemon prince or a cheeky Ork character abusing cover saves like one of those. I'm actually in the process of deoptimising my lists which at worst look nothing like that shit above!
ReplyDeleteI deliberately don't read list oriented blogs as I want to find my own way with my armies. I've got a lot of refreshing work from dudes on the hobby front that I'm following if you want some of those.
Definetely send me some of those links Red!
ReplyDeleteHOTPanda, I just checked out blog. Looks like my type of place! It just needs more Zombie Guard!!! I'm adding you to the list!
I do see your point that the blogs do get a little repetitive, I would plug my own blog but I don't think it's worthy of your time haha. Although if your curious, http://40kn00b.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteCheer Asmodai consider me a follower of your blog as well. If you are into narrative battle reports be sure to check them out on my blog. I o my batreps from a story perspective rather than a turn by turn "what I rolled". I find its the little blogs out their that produce the unique work. The big sites are just pushing the same thing over and over again and tend to ignore the hobby and painting side of the game.
ReplyDeleteYeah I will go ahead and plug my blog here as well although AI have been having some interweb snafus as of late but I should be dropping a new post in the next 48 hours.
ReplyDeleteI actually find my own blog to be too hobby oriented, If I havent made any hobby progress or my camera takes a poop in the bed QI dont have much to post. I am really wanting to diversivy my own posting habits to include more articles and even some generally geekery not just 40k hobby stuff....
Oh forgot the link: thebuddytimes.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteMostly my basement dwelling hobby stuff
Hashshashin, you got jetbikes and custodes. Consider me a follower!!
ReplyDeleteAs of around 4:30 CST, I think I have everybody links that have been sent in. Also if you're a follower I've added you as well. If I missed you, please accept my apologies and drop my a line to remind me to add you!
ReplyDeleteI'm personally feel kinda proud that my little post has started something. Maybe this can lead to some awesome army ideas from folks and start a non-SPAM movement!!
Well if you are interested in white scars or just bike armies in general check out http://whitescars-army.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteNo net msu transport spam here just solid gaming advice for one of the most unique playing armies on the net.
